About Deborah ~ "A little about me, personally and professionally."
Deborah Tyrrell M.C., LPC, NCC, & Board Certified Coach
As the youngest of five children who grew up on a farm in rural Nebraska, ten miles from the closest town of about 3,000 people. My mother worked full time at the local hospital from the time I was three years old, and my father worked the field from dawn until dusk. When I was fifteen years old I was diagnosed with scoliosis, which began a three year journey of wearing a full body cast in an attempt to correct my curvature. Assessments revealed that the casts were unsuccessful, which meant I needed back surgery. After a bone graft from my hip and a thirteen inch spinal fusion, I spent one year lying flat on my back in a hospital bed, 200 miles away from home in a ward of the state’s Crippled Children’s Hospital. I saw my father once and my mother three times that entire year. Believing I was a burden, I know what it’s like to feel alone and unlovable….. to believe the story that, “I’m on my own. I feel abandoned, so I must not be important.”
I knew in my heart that there were gifts waiting to be discovered in my emotional landscape. I was determined to discover them, so I could assist others in their exploration. It has now been more than 25 years since I decided to embody my message, engage in work that feeds my soul, and offer it to the world. Crossing the bridge from my wounds, and understanding the transition of stepping into new ways of being, I knew I was called to extend a hand to those behind, still waiting. Our wounds do not need to dictate who we are!
My mission became providing clinically and Biblically sound mental health services and integrated coaching processes to individuals, couples, and families - from a framework of Christian love, understanding, and compassion. What makes me unique is my reliance upon the Spirit of God to see below the symptoms (often the problems that are initially shared) and discern by the Holy Spirit the real issues.
Another path of my journey has been grieving the loss of my marriage of 33 years. I understand the opportunities for growth in being married as well as in the painful aftermath of divorce. As a result, I am passionate in my work of helping couples identify negative relational patterns, and replacing them with loving behaviors that foster meaningful love, intimacy, and fulfillment. The most effective way that I have found of helping a marriage heal is through a Marriage Intensive. An intensive allows the gift of uninterrupted time which helps gain the progress you want! I feel great joy seeing relationships transformed in front of me, from being a cause of pain to a source of hope and blessing!
Like most of you, my life has thus had many turns I never expected! Several years after my post-divorce healing I began to learn how to navigate the art of dating. I soon realized it was a much different world from when I had last dated at age eighteen! During the process, I PRAYED a LOT as well as sought Godly counsel. Seven years into this part of my journey, I gained the clarity needed regarding the type of man I wanted in a Christ-Centered relationship. God, in His faithfulness, granted the desires of my heart…and I married my husband Steve in April of 2012! ~ As a result of my study and experiences, another facet of my practice has emerged. I now love helping women by offering Dating Coaching from a Christian World View. Also, in the process I gained the honored position of becoming a stepmother, and as a result I am more optimistic than ever about the redemptive power of healthy step-families.
I initially earned my Bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska, College of Dentistry. Later, I went on to earn my Master's degree in Counseling from Arizona State University, and certification as a Life Coach at the Life Purpose Institute in La Jolla, CA (ICF Accredited).
I am a Professional Counselor licensed by the State of Arizona, as well as a Professional Life and Relationship Coach.
