Choose this day
Submitted by kristen@newmome... I woke up worried this morning. My mind wandered all over the place. Then the words of Joshua 24:15 came to me,
"...choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve..." - I was reminded that I had a choice. I could choose to think about what would leave me feeling good or not. For I understood that every thought I have releases a chemical in my brain that will leave me feeling serene or unsettled.
In some ways, fear is like an enemy that watches us as a besieging force would watch a guarded city - looking for a weak spot, attacking that, and gaining an entrance. Therefore, I don't have the 'luxury' of dwelling on thoughts that affords fear a 'landing place'. If I do, the outcome inevitably leads to discouragement, anxiety, and doubt.
"Summing it all up, friends, I'd say you'll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious - the best, not the worst: the beautiful, not the ugly, things to praise, not things to curse." (Phil. 4:8 The Message)
Lord Jesus, help me put this exhortation into practice. In Your strength, help me guard the battlefield of my mind. For I acknowledge that what I think about will strengthen or weaken the cords of Love that bind me to You. Because of Your tender, never-failing love, may I fight fear and conquer. Amen.
